Ministry Areas: Strategic focus to advance the mission and vision
A daughter church of Providence PCA in north York, New Life began as its own congregation in 2003 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dale Buettner. First meeting in a school gymnasium, in 2008, New Life purchased and the entire congregation renovated a building that had previously been a Moose Lodge. After Rev. Buettner took a pastorate elsewhere, in August 2015 Rev. Erik Swanson was installed as pastor.
New Life’s logo artistically weaves together components of our vision, mission, and name. In terms of vision, this logo reflects beauty and represents growth. Just as our vision reminds us that we are rooted in York, this artistic rendition of a PA native serviceberry branch speaks to our geographic and cultural situation. In terms of mission, new growth reflects what happens when we receive the grace of God, grace which is rooted in Christ. The centrality of the cross testifies that we are to give glory to God, for Christ is to be the center of our lives. Further, the branch pictures fruit-bearing, which is a result of following the word of God. Finally, our name, “New Life,” is alluded to by the new growth and by the symbolism that this new life comes from Christ.
New Life is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. Church leadership affirms the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. Church members and attenders have a more broadly evangelical and protestant flavor. Without compromising convictions, as a church culture we seek to practice the adage “in essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.”
